CHEW ON THIS

Termites are a Real Terror

No other pest should cause more anxiety than termites. For starters, they inhabit one in every four homes, cost US homeowners $5+ billion dollars every year, and they’re active 24/7. That’s right folks, they NEVER sleep.

These little terrors feast on the cellulose in your wood, leaving enormous tunnels throughout your home's ravaged structure. And they’re not picky—termites can feast on any type of wood. No matter the type of home, it’s important to defend yourself against these invaders. Luckily, Black Diamond is here to help keep your home termite-free with our Sentricon® system

YOU CAN’T BEAT THE SYSTEM

The Power of the Sentricon® Station

Extremely effective at keeping termites in line, Sentricon® stations are not only unobtrusive, but they’re also safe for you and the whole family!

Exclusive to the ongoing plans offered by Black Diamond, baiting systems represent the pinnacle in environmentally friendly termite control. This method utilizes strategically placed bait stations around your property to eliminate termites. The bait interferes with the termites' ability to eat and reproduce through the inability to molt, leading to the eventual collapse of the colony. This system provides a termite treatment that effectively eradicates existing infestations and is a cornerstone of Black Diamond's continuous monitoring and termite management strategy.

GET WORKED UP

How the Sentricon® Stations Work

Sentricon® Stations are small, tube-shaped bait stations that are inserted into the earth around your home at regular intervals. Worker termites are constantly foraging for new food sources in the soil, year-round. Termites eat wood and they live in the soil, so bringing this bait to them helps eliminate a colony much quicker.

The underground station contains bait and the chemical noviflumuron, which prevents them from properly growing their exoskeleton over time, but not before they take the bait back to their fellow workers. Eventually, enough of the workers die and the colony collapses, and any future invaders will meet the same fate once they encounter the Sentricon® Stations.

CHECKING IN TO BALANCE THINGS OUT

Sentricon® Station Inspections

Black Diamond will annually check all stations, replacing bait, damaged and missing stations as necessary. This specialized form of pest control focuses specifically on the fight against termites, ensuring you and your family stay pest-free all year long.

Stations should remain accessible
at all times.

Thick layers of mulch/rock make servicing your system difficult.
If you must cover the stations,
please mark them with a flag or
another indicator.
If a station rises above ground level, apply light pressure to reinsert it into the earth. If this does not work, please call to have us reseat the station.
Note: If issues occur, such as a lawnmower hitting the cap and causing damage,
additional costs could be incurred.

Sentricon® System and Termite Treatment Frequently Asked Questions

Q:
Will having mulch around my house attract termites?
A:

Keeping mulch a few inches away from the foundation of your house, used in moderation, is usually safe from termites. However, it is good to invest in termite-resistant materials and to keep your yard well-drained to minimize the risk of termites.

Q:
Do Sentricon® stations attract termites?
A:

No, termites find Sentricon® stations through their relentless search and continuous foraging for additional food sources. Once they discover the stations, they’ll find the patented and highly desirable lethal food source inside, which the termite workers readily feed on and take back to the colony to share with their nestmates. The termites die off but are unable to identify the cause. This ultimately leads to the death of the colony and the queen.

Q:
Will the Sentricon System treatment push termites to my neighbor’s house?
A:

The Sentricon® System doesn’t cause termites to run away to your neighbor’s house. The system is designed to eliminate the colony in your area. But, if you’re concerned about your neighbor, it might not be a bad idea to suggest a super awesome pest control company that could easily put their termite worries at ease.

Q:
Do termites live in the walls?
A:

Subterranean termites live outside in your yard. They’ll often tunnel up into your walls when they search for something tasty. You’ll notice mud tubes along your walls as a sign that they could potentially be in the structure of your home.

Q:
Are termites only active in the spring?
A:

Technically, subterranean termites are active all year long. For the most part they will do most of their damage during the warmer months in spring and summer.

Q:
I live in a brick house can I still get termites?
A:

Yes, it doesn't matter if your house is made of straw, sticks, or bricks... all construction types are in danger of big bad termites.

Q:
If there are no trees around my house can I still get termites?
A:

Subterranean termites live in the dirt and need moisture to stay alive. They can go for long distances in the ground, and don’t need trees for sustenance. So, remember…If there are sources of wood on or near your home, be on the look out.

Q:
Do termites leave sawdust behind?
A:

No, but those dirty carpenter ants do!

Q:
How long do termites live in a house?
A:

Termites can infest a house as long as there is wood or wood by-products to consume, and no effective termite control measures have been taken. Colonies can grow to over a million within a few years.

Q:
How do I prevent termites?
A:

Eliminate wood contact with ground, reduce moisture near the foundation and in crawl spaces, never store firewood or wood debris against or beneath the home, and have the home treated by Black Diamond for termites.

Q:
How fast can termites cause damage?
A:

The amount of time it takes for a termite colony to cause damage is determined by several factors. The size of the colony is one of the largest factors when considering how quickly damage will be done. The larger the colony, the more structural damage they can do and the faster they can do it. A single termite eats about 2% of its body weight in wood daily, and a colony of 60,000 workers can eat a whole square foot of lumber in one month. As such, even a moderate size colony can do massive amounts of damage in as little as six months. On average, it can take three to five years for a termite colony’s damage to become visible. At this point, the colony will have dealt thousands of dollars of damage.

Q:
Will termites go away on their own?
A:

Termites will infest a home until there is no food source left in the home.

Q:
DO TERMITES BITE HUMANS?
A:

No, termites do not bite humans.

Q:
What is the cost of service?
A:

Service costs depend on a number of different factors. This can be the type of treatment needed, the size of the area being treated and the time needed to properly treat the pest problem.
